EMMAUS KIWANIS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP AND GRANT INFORMATION FOR EAST PENN & PARKLAND SCHOOL DISTRICT MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
The Kiwanis Club of Emmaus supports the youth of the East Penn School District through a variety of efforts that include scholarships totaling over $5000 and grants described below. Kiwanis also sponsors the EHS Key Club and the LMMS Builder’s Club and provides some financial support for other school activities including the Physical Fitness Team and the STEP program. This page tells you about the scholarship and grant programs, how they are awarded, and what you must do to apply for them. Further information can be obtained through the school’s guidance office, or from the Emmaus Kiwanis Club.
Active Key Club membership is a consideration for these scholarships but, except the Stoudt Scholarship, is not required. See the specific criteria for each scholarship under the descriptions below. Key Club or Builders Club membership is one consideration for students applying for leadership grants but is not mandatory.
Also, note that the Emmaus Kiwanis Club is under no obligation to make any award or grant if no qualified applicants meet the specified criteria of that award or grant. The Committee will not consider applications that are not in whole or in part illegible.
DONALD W. AND STELLA V. TRUMP MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This Scholarship is established to honor the memory of former East Penn School District teacher Donald W. Trump and his wife, Stella. This award will be given to a graduating EHS senior who will major in Education, will be attending a Pennsylvania State Public University, and will be granted based on need and academic performance. Active Key Club membership is desirable, but not mandatory. This scholarship, valued at $1,000, is funded by their family and friends. The award will be made directly to the school that the recipient will be attending, to offset freshman year tuition, room, and board.
WALTER C. STOUDT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
The Kiwanis Walter C. Stoudt Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior at EHS who has been an active member of the EHS Key Club. The value of the scholarship is $2,000, awarded for the recipient's freshman year at college, and paid directly to that school. The three criteria for selection of the winner are (1) Service to EHS and the community with particular emphasis on Key Club; (2) Scholastic achievement while in high school; and (3) Financial need. This award memorializes Walter C. Stoudt, the founding President of the Kiwanis Club of Emmaus in 1953. He exhibited strong leadership in the Emmaus community, which led to the establishment of the Kiwanis Club of Emmaus. Walter had and displayed a deep interest in helping youth achieve their maximum potential, and he initiated the scholarship that now bears his name.
To apply for this scholarship, submit the EHS standard Scholarship Request Form (including your email address) and Academic Information Release Form. Also submit a typewritten or printed essay that describes your Key Club history, your service to the school and to the community (highlighting any leadership roles you had), your future education plans, any other scholarships and grants that have been offered to you, and any extenuating circumstances that you believe should be considered.
DR. WARREN M. HAMSCHER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
The Kiwanis Dr. Warren M. Hamscher Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior at EHS who has demonstrated leadership in one or more EHS varsity sports programs, has maintained a high level of scholastic achievement, and demonstrates financial need. Active Key Club membership is desirable, but not mandatory. The award is a one-time payment of $1,500, paid directly to the college or school which the awardee will be attending. This award is given to memorialize past Kiwanis President Dr. Warren M Hamscher who was an outstanding student-athlete excelling in baseball, football, and track while at EHS. In 1953, he became a charter member of the newly forming Kiwanis Club of Emmaus. Dr. Hamscher had a deep interest in helping EHS students achieve their goals both academically and in sports.
To apply for this scholarship, submit the EHS standard Scholarship Request Form (including your email address) and Academic Information Release Form available from the EHS Guidance Office. Also submit a typewritten or printed essay describing your varsity team athletic accomplishments at EHS, stressing your leadership roles. JV team activities may be included in your essay. Your essay should also identify your educational goals and any other scholarships or grants you have been offered. Finally, the essay should discuss how athletics has helped you develop and mature as a student.
EMMAUS KIWANIS CLUB SERVICE AWARD
The Kiwanis Service Award is a one-time grant of $1000 made directly to the selected graduating senior at EHS. The applicant must demonstrate an extensive service and leadership record in serving EHS and their community. Selection criteria are: (1) The applicant’s service record through school and community organizations (such as volunteer fire/ambulance companies, religious communities, the local hospitals, nursing homes, etc.). Active Key Club membership is desirable, but not mandatory. (2) Specific plans to continue their life’s development in service. This award typifies the basic Kiwanis mission of service to others.
To apply for this award, submit the standard EHS scholarship request form (including your email address) and a typewritten or printed essay with a detailed account of your service through all organizations (both at EHS and outside of school). Also, include a brief description of how you plan to continue your life’s development after graduation.
EMMAUS KIWANIS YOUTH LEADERSHIP GRANTS
Emmaus Kiwanis Youth Leadership Grants are available to East Penn students who plan to attend educational or leadership development programs such as Model UN, Presidential Classroom, People to People program, Congressional Page program, and the like. Generally awarded to middle school students and high school underclassmen, the application is made by letter to the Kiwanis Club of Emmaus. These awards are given to help young students experience the possibilities of a wide range of life experiences.

This scholarship was created by the Emmaus Kiwanis Foundation to recognize a student who demonstrated personal determination and initiative in overcoming adversity to achieve their goal. The scholarship is a one-time award of $1,000 paid directly to the school which the awardee will attend. It is awarded to a student who has strived to reach his or her goal, despite circumstances of adversity, through perseverance and resilience.

The Pennsylvania Kiwanis Foundation will be awarding 4 scholarships, at $2,000 each. Key Club Scholarships were designed to provide recognition to Key Club Members of the Pennsylvania District of Key Club International.
These four scholarships include the: Phil Broadhead Memorial Scholarship, Barry J. Halbritter Scholarship, Myrna Perkins Memorial Scholarship, and the Willi Schaefer Scholarship. An individual who applies is eligible to receive one scholarship. The recipient of the scholarship shall be a graduating high school senior who has demonstrated leadership abilities and provided service to others, and has achieved academic excellence. In addition, the recipient shall be of high moral character and strive for excellence in all their endeavors. The scholarship recipients will be notified in July by mail.

The Stanley T. Holmes Scholarship to be awarded to a graduating senior at Emmaus High School who meets the criteria outlined below. The value of this annual scholarship is $1,000.00 awarded for the recipient's first year at Vocational or Trade School/Technical College and paid directly to that school. The four criteria for recipient selection are (1) Volunteer service in his/her community. 2) Educational/Technical Training achievement while attending a Technical/Trade High School in Lehigh County with a Grade Point average of 3.0. (3) Demonstrates financial need. (4) Personal commitment to career training at a Technical Career Institute or equal in the vocational/ technical or professional trade. This award honors Stanley T. Holmes who has been an active member of the Emmaus Kiwanis Club since 1960 and has served our local community as a Kiwanis Volunteer for over 60 years, 1960 – present. Stan has exhibited strong leadership in the Emmaus Kiwanis Club serving in nearly every leadership role of our club and has been a key contributor to our 70 -year history.
